About the client

Ajuma is a HealthTech startup founded by two parents who wanted to protect their newborn from UV damage and long-term skin cancer risks. They created the UV-Bodyguard, a smart wearable that measures UV radiation and alerts users before reaching harmful exposure levels.

With scientific expertise and a mission rooted in safety, Ajuma partnered with Geniusee to transform their hardware prototype into a scalable digital product ecosystem.

Business context

Ajuma initially considered building a single cross-platform app, but after technical analysis, our team recommended two separate native apps for iOS and Android to ensure accuracy, performance, and optimal device integration.

The goal was to create a seamless, intuitive mobile experience that translates complex UV data into simple, actionable guidance, while reliably pairing with the UV-Bodyguard wearable.

To succeed, the platform needed:

  • A stable infrastructure ready for commercial launch
  • Real-time UV data interpretation
  • Reliable Bluetooth communication with the device
  • Alerts and recommended exposure limits
  • An intuitive UI for families and outdoor enthusiasts

Challenges

Building native apps that deliver precise, real-time UV exposure insights

Seamless integration with the UV-Bodyguard wearable

Balancing scientific accuracy with an easy-to-understand user experience

Ensuring scalability as the company prepared for market rollout in 2021

Solutions we implemented

Native iOS and Android applications

Geniusee developed two fully native apps using Swift (iOS) and Kotlin (Android) to achieve the highest accuracy and responsiveness, especially critical for live UV measurement and sensor pairing. The apps translate raw UV data into clear, personalized exposure recommendations with real-time alerts.

Smart device integration

We established a stable connection between the UV-Bodyguard and the mobile app, ensuring reliable synchronization, quick data transfer, and accurate exposure thresholds tailored to user profiles.

User-centered UI/UX design

Our designers crafted a clean, intuitive interface that communicates complex UV science in a simple, friendly way. The design supports users of all ages and emphasizes safety, clarity, and ease of action.

Robust AWS infrastructure & DevOps

We implemented a secure backend using AWS services such as Route 53 and VPC, supporting device data handling, user profiles, and future scalability. CI/CD pipelines ensured fast, smooth delivery during long-term cooperation.
